2 Thessalonians 1:5-12
I appreciate this passage being a part of this series. Eternal judgment is often overlooked, even by me. Especially by me. I need not tell others about the gospel, they'll figure it out... No. The gospel is urgent. His truth is good and is necessary for life. The day of judgment will be an entirely different experience to those facing destruction versus glory.
In what ways does Jesus accomplish what is promised in the passage?
Jesus is our gospel. He is our measure. When He returns, those who have not chosen to be covered by His sacrifice will be measured to His level of perfection, and found wanting. For those who believe, He will be glorified! He will be "marveled at by all who have believed." I love how Paul starts with admonishing the saints, then prays that God would grant us with the capabilities to accomplish these things. It feels easier to "gird my loins," try harder, work longer... But without God I can do no thing. I have no faith without Him, the author of faith.
"To this end, we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
This is my prayer also today, that God would make me worthy of my calling and fulfill every resolve for good, and fulfill every work of faith. Not by my power, but by His, and for His glory.
