In pursuit of "life," I have found another quote which speaks boundlessly to my soul. Questioning why struggle is necessary while ignorance appears to really be blissful, I picked up "Searching for God Knows What" by Donald Miller and stuffed it into Drew's stocking. In the first chapter, Miller describes a conversation in which a friend told him "Reality is a fine wine. It will not appeal to children." Miller adds, "This truth helped me understand and appreciate life itself as it is, without the false hope formulas offer."
Yes, life is what I am after. Reality. I can appreciate wine, though with an untrained palate. Still I can taste the difference between Franzia from a box and whatever wine my waiter advises at Olive Garden. The complexity of a good wine is unbeatable - when the flavor changes within a sip. I would rather pay the price of a quality, complex life than settle for boxed anything.
By the way, the day ended guiltless as I did tidy our home and planned dinner before Drew came home from work. We also continued our tradition of opening presents before Christmas (which explains why I read the first chapter of his present!).
